I recently watched a presentation by Oskar Stålberg about his beautiful game Townscaper and I wanted to try to recreate his floor grid in Houdini
This little project took 2 extended weekends in 2021 and was a lot of fun to work on 🙂
The result is a fully self-contained Houdini tool that can also be used in Unreal, as seen in the video bellow
I also created a matching procedural texture in Substance Designer that adapts to the floor using either square or hex tiles
